Installing Crimson Editor Tools
These directions are for your personal PCs and the open labs. If you are in one of the Computer Science department labs (CCT208, CCT407, or CCT450) you do not need to do any of this. For your personal PCs you only need to do this once. For the open labs you do this every time, refer to Running Java in the Open Labs before proceeding.
These tools are configured for Crimson Editor installed in C:\Program Files\Crimson Editor and JDK 5.0 installed in C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_01 if Java was installed from the CD that comes with the book, C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_07 if Java was installed from the java.sun.com web site, and C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_05 if you're in one of the open labs (first floor of CCT or 24-hour lab in the Health and Safety building) at CSU.
If your installation is different from any of these, contact your instructor.
1. Obtain the appropriate Java.cmd file from your instructor or (if you're on a PC in a CSU lab) from network drive I:\Wright Place\Crimson Editor Tools and save the file in C:\Program Files\Crimson Editor\tools
2. Launch Crimson Editor
3. Click on Tools and from the Tools menu select Load User Tools and move your mouse pointer to Java and click (see following screenshot). This will load the user tools. If you're in a CSU lab, you can stop here*, otherwise proceed to step 4 below.
* If you close Crimson Editor you will have to reload the tools if you relaunch it. If you plan to have multiple Crimson Editor sessions before shutting down, go ahead and do steps 4 and 5 below.

4. Click on Tools and from the Tools menu click on Conf. User Tools... (see following screenshot). This will open the Preferences window. Then proceed to step 5 below.
3. Click on the OK button (see following screenshot). This will save the tools so that they will be available in future sessions. You're done!
