 SAM
2003 has various components:

SAM -- you will use SAM when you take your mid-term and final exams (including practice exams)

bullet

Product Code -- the "Product Code" is a code which is included in your SAM 2003 CD package and must be entered when logging in to the  secured Web site during your exams (this codes can be used by only ONE student; someone else cannot use your code and you cannot use a code from a previous student)

bullet

Tutorials:
bullet

Interactive, online "Training" (tutorials) covering course topics with excellent practice quizzes and questions which are identical to those you will find on your mid-term and final exams

bullet

Select the Application( i.e. Word, Excel) to access the program you wish to study

bullet

Your SAM package contains a CD-ROM with files you will need to load on your computer when you are working through course material or taking practice exams OFF CAMPUS*

bullet

*If and only if, you wish to take the practice tests or work the tutorials from your home or computer other than one on campus.

How do I get my SAM Product Code (my access code)?

If you plan to use the course material that is provided for you online, you will need to refer to my Web page on the course "Textbooks" for ordering your SAM 2003 CD

If you purchased the textbook bundle from the CSU Bookstore, your SAM 2003 CD (with Product Code) is part of that bundle, therefore, no additional purchase in needed

bullet

You may wish to check with the CSU Bookstore to see if you can get only the SAM 2003 CD. The CSU Bookstore has an entire book bundle for the traditional/seated classes or for online students wishing to purchase the entire book bundle.

--Please note that any Web site other than the one listed above may be selling you a "used" Product code. Product Codes are NOT re-usable; your Product code can be used only by you and not another student after you finish using it.


 I Have the CD, How Do I Begin?

Follow the directions in the CD packet for accessing the SAM 2003 Web site

bullet

Your Product Code and other important instructions are contained on the packaging that arrived with your CD; follow those instructions

bullet

If possible, have your SAM CD with you during the Orientation Session

bullet

IMPORTANT: Your Product Code can be used only once so FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS CAREFULLY when you log on for the first time

I will create our SAM course which corresponds to your CPSC 1105 CRN

bullet

As you logon for the first time, you will build your User Profile and set your user id and password

bullet

When building your User Profile, please enter your last name, the underscore character, then your first name

bullet

When you build your password, please enter the last 6 digits of your CSU id

bullet

DO NOT CHANGE YOUR USER ID AND PASSWORD NOR DEVIATE FROM THESE GUIDELINES PLEASE

Once you have built your User Profile, you should select the SAM course, then click "Save," then click "Join"  to be admitted (all these steps for joining your SAM course are listed in your SAM 2003 CD packet):

Once you have built your User Profile, you should click Section, then Join Section, scroll to find your CRN which begins with the word McQueen, highlight the correct section, click the arrow to move the section to the frame on the right, click Save, then note the message that you have successfully joined a section

Click on "Assignments" from the menu bar on the left then look for the two exams McQueenWindows and McQueenIE

by mistake if you join the wrong CRN, simply begin the process again, remove yourself from the incorrect section and select the correct one (if you cannot remove yourself from the incorrrect section, please contact me so that I may remove you; it is imperative that you in the correct SAM section)

Note: these were to have been completed the first of the semester, however, if you have not done so, please take them now

Note: if you fail to properly Join the SAM Section, you will not be able to see the exams created for you

 

 
 Accessing SAM 2003 Off Campus

SAM 2003 CD must be installed on the computer you will be using

bullet

It can be installed on more than one computer, so if you are using both a work & a personal computer, it can installed twice

bullet

When you log on for your practice exam or to access the training tutorials, all you need to do is click on the icon on your desktop which automatically open their Web browser and takes you to the SAM 2003 log in screen

On-campus computer work stations, in CCT and other labs, already have these files installed

bullet

If for some reason you are missing this CD, please contact Course Technology or the place you purchased the CD; also, please inform the Teaching Assistant right away so we will be know about your problem

bulletAOL: If you are using AOL, it acts as a browser so you will need to minimize this window and launch Internet Explorer to work in SAM 2003 from an off campus site

SAM Updates

1) When taking an exam in SAM covering Excel, you may have to click a second time to place the cursor in the correct cell.

2) Close all programs before working in SAM.  SAM cannot work properly if other programs are open.
